An explosion occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Czech town of Kroměříž during repair work on a water pipe, leaving two people injured, police spokeswoman Šárka Trnková reported.

According to Veronika Slámenová, spokeswoman for the Zlín Region Emergency Medical Service, one of the injured sustained less serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Kroměříž, while the other, more seriously hurt, was airlifted by rescue helicopter to the emergency department of the Tomáš Baťa Regional Hospital in Zlín.

Police received a report of the explosion at around 12:30 pm. As of 1:45 pm, integrated rescue system units were still working at the scene. Police have yet to determine the cause of the blast. "It will take some time," Trnková said.
