In the Liberec Region, two men attacked ambulance drivers who had come to help their unconscious friend. The incident took place overnight from Thursday to Friday near Česká Lípa, leaving both paramedics injured and unable to work.
The medics themselves described the incident on social media. According to them, a doctor and a paramedic were fighting to save the life of an unconscious patient in the dark hallway of a house when two of the man's acquaintances first began verbally abusing the crew, then turned to physical violence.
The ambulance drivers tried to calm the attackers down so their colleagues could continue treating the patient. As a result, one driver was knocked to the ground, while the other was punched. Fortunately, police arrived at the scene shortly after.
It's worth noting that ambulance drivers do more than just transport medical crews to and from the scene — they also actively assist doctors and paramedics in providing first aid to patients.
"The incident occurred in the Česká Lípa area, where two ambulance crews were working, and both drivers were attacked. Following the assault, they were declared unfit for work," confirmed Michael Georgiev, spokesperson for the Liberec Region Emergency Medical Service.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. "We can confirm that we are actively investigating the attack on the two ambulance drivers. We are gathering the necessary materials to determine the final legal classification of the incident, which will depend, among other things, on the severity of the health consequences suffered by both medics who were attacked by two aggressors while performing their professional duties," said police spokesperson Ivana Baláková.
