Police in the Czech town of Jihlava chased down the driver of a luxury Bentley after he refused to pull over for a check and sped off through the city streets. The chase ended when the fleeing driver drove himself straight into a dead end — a stretch of road closed for construction.
According to police spokeswoman Michaela Lebrová, a patrol spotted the car and attempted to stop the driver for a routine check. He initially followed behind the patrol vehicle, but then suddenly turned onto Vrchlického Street in Jihlava and tried to make a getaway at high speed.
The driver then headed toward S. K. Neumann Street, turned onto Buková Street, and continued through Rantířovská and Žižkova streets. It was there that the chase finally came to an end — one of Jihlava's main traffic arteries is currently closed to vehicles.
"That's where the Bentley driver was forced to stop, because of road maintenance equipment working on the carriageway," the police spokeswoman explained. Officers then detained the driver.
Police are now investigating the circumstances of the incident and are asking anyone who witnessed the dangerous chase to come forward. Anyone who saw the sports car's reckless driving is urged to call the emergency line at 158.
Footage from a car dashcam would be especially valuable to investigators if any driver happened to capture the chase on camera. Police are also calling on pedestrians and other witnesses who noticed the dangerous driving, or who were put at risk by the Bentley driver's maneuvers, to get in touch.
