The driver who brutally beat a woman at the wheel on the D6 on Oct. 11 believes that part of the blame lies with her. “It just happened, it came out the way it came out,” the man said in a television interview. He claimed the woman would not let him overtake her ahead of a narrowed section and then gave him the middle finger.
“But I think this lady is partly to blame, and she knows it very well,” he said, explaining his attack. “We started to provoke each other; I wouldn’t call it a beating,” he added. The woman went on sick leave after the attack.
Asked whether he realized what he had done after watching the footage, the man replied: “I get it now. It’s sinking in, but there is no going back.” He said it was a short circuit.
The aggressive driver first flashed his lights at her and braked hard in front of her, then stopped ahead of her, opened her car door and brutally hit her on the head and body. He also tried to seize the dash cam, but an eight-year-old girl quick-wittedly hid it under the seat.
The victim was driving through a motorway construction zone where signs gradually lowered the speed limit to 50, 30 and then 50 kilometers per hour again. “The woman did nothing other than respect all the speed recommendations and drive accordingly,” said police spokeswoman Vlasta Suchánková.
The woman and her daughter suffered psychological trauma. Both have been afraid to travel by car since the attack. Police tracked down the attacker and are handling the case in an abbreviated procedure on charges of attempted bodily harm, disorderly conduct and theft.
