At Bory prison in Plzeň, an aggressive inmate attacked guards, and three of them ended up in hospital with minor injuries. Prison director Dragoslav Červinka confirmed the incident and said he would pass the case to police.
According to available information, the man first attacked two guards, who called for help. Four more colleagues then joined the scuffle. The attacker was eventually subdued and taken to an ordinary hospital under strict security measures.
Luboš Bouček of the regional ambulance service said three crews had been dispatched to the scene. “After giving first aid, we took three people with minor injuries to hospital,” he said. They turned out to be the guards.
Markéta Prunerová, a spokeswoman for the General Directorate of the Prison Service, said the incident happened recently and is now being investigated, so she cannot yet provide details.
This is not the first incident at Bory prison this year. In May, three inmates from Ukraine drank a disinfectant meant for cleaning, and all of them ended up in hospital. A forty-year-old man eventually died.
The case was investigated by the General Inspectorate of Security Forces (GIBS). Its spokesman Jakub Augusta said that no prison service employee was directly involved in the convict's death.
