Shortly before 12:30 in the town of Rokycany (Plzeň Region), police received a report of a man who had doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire outside a family house. According to police spokesman Ondřej Hodan, his partner helped put out the flames before the emergency crews arrived.
The man then got on a bicycle and rode away. Police found him on Polní Street, about two and a half kilometres from the scene, and handed him over to paramedics.
The injured man was flown by helicopter to a specialist clinic in Prague’s Vinohrady. According to Luboš Bouček of the regional rescue service, after treatment at the scene the patient, who had burns to his head and face, was handed over to colleagues from the air rescue service for transport to Prague’s burn centre. The man was conscious.
