A trial has begun in Munich of 26-year-old Ahmad A., who was released from custody in a rape case and, according to the prosecution, soon committed a new crime. The first hearing at the Munich Regional Court took place on Thursday, and the proceedings will continue next Tuesday.
Last April, just six weeks after the Syrian’s arrest, Munich prosecutors asked for his detention to be suspended because the underage victim was unavailable for questioning “for the foreseeable future.” Prosecution spokeswoman Juliana Grotz explained that it was impossible to predict when the investigation could be completed, so continued detention was no longer proportionate.
According to the newspaper Bild, at around 10 p.m. on July 15, 2025, a 29-year-old woman met Ahmad in central Munich and asked him for a cigarette. Two Yemenis, Haidar A. and Musa H., joined them and took the woman under a bridge over the Isar, where, despite her loud protests, they raped her in turn. The woman then fled from them at a gas station to a group of people and asked for help. All three were detained in September 2025.
For the first rape, the Munich district court had already sentenced Ahmad to two years and six months in prison, as the portal FLZ recalled. In the new trial all three deny guilt. According to a lawyer quoted by Bild, everything happened by mutual consent. If convicted, Ahmad faces at least two more years in prison.
