Police have detained a woman suspected of murdering a newborn whose body was found on 13 September in a paper container in a small town in Bohemian Paradise. A court remanded her in custody, police spokeswoman Vladimíra Šrýtrová said.
The arrest took place at the beginning of this week. A mass screening of local women with DNA analysis, which investigators chose as one of their methods, helped in the search. Officers also reviewed camera footage from the scene and its surroundings and sent items found there for expert examination.
The baby’s body was found by chance by a woman throwing out sorted waste: it lay at the bottom of a container on a remote street near a football pitch.
Because this is an especially serious crime against a child under 15, the woman faces up to 20 years in prison or an exceptional sentence, the police spokeswoman explained.
