Police in the Moravian-Silesian Region have released new details about the death of a woman who had been considered missing since September 3, after her body was found in a forest near the town of Frýdek-Místek. According to police, shortly before she disappeared the woman herself had called for help, but without much insistence, essentially trying to handle the situation on her own.
Earlier in the week, police had already reported that before she disappeared, the woman was in a difficult psychological state and had been trying to find professional help on her own. Investigators also looked into her family relationships. “No negative relationships within the family were recorded,” said the head of the Moravian-Silesian regional criminal police, Martin Lichý, on Tuesday.
The woman worked as a judicial assistant at the Regional Court in Ostrava. According to police, the condition of the body is consistent with her having died on the day she disappeared — Thursday, September 3. Camera footage led investigators to the Frýdek forest, where the body was found in an area of dense undergrowth, far from the places her family usually visited.
“This spot is completely unsuitable for walking, the terrain getting there is very difficult. To reach it from home, she would have had to walk several kilometers,” said Tomáš Kužel, director of the Moravian-Silesian regional police.
According to him, knives, a backpack and a bicycle light with a power source were found near the body. Police have not confirmed the theory of suicide: a forensic autopsy is still pending, and the investigation continues. The woman's relatives later said it had been a suicide, but police declined to comment on that information — the family was only told that the woman had been found.
