Police have released video of an attack on the D6 motorway near Jesenice: on October 11, an aggressive SUV driver cut in front of a car carrying a young woman and her eight-year-old daughter, braked hard, stopped and brutally beat the driver. The case is being investigated as attempted bodily harm, disorderly conduct and theft.
The recording, which was posted on social media on Thursday, runs for almost a minute. It shows a dark Volkswagen approaching the victim's car from the left and swerving into her path before slamming on the brakes. A man jumps out, opens the driver's door and starts hitting her. The next clip comes from the camera of a car that stopped behind them, and a heavy blow is visible. The video does not show what led up to the confrontation.
According to police spokeswoman Vlasta Suchánková, the woman and her daughter, who was in the front passenger seat, were driving through a construction zone on the D6 near Jesenice, where signs set the speed limit first at 50, then 30 and again 50 km/h. She was simply obeying the limits, but this apparently did not suit an impatient driver, who first flashed his lights at her and then began cutting her off and braking sharply in front of her.
His aggression kept escalating. After stopping in front of the woman on a busy motorway, the man, according to police, began viciously beating her about the head and body, and also tried to take her dash cam.
The driver told the attacker that everything was being recorded by a dash cam, which her daughter was holding at that moment. The man tried to grab the device, but the girl quickly hid the camera under the seat. Thanks to this, police have the crucial recording.
Investigators are handling the case in an expedited procedure. Suchánková said the victim suffered severe shock and, like her daughter, is afraid to drive. Police promised to give the case maximum attention and do everything to bring the aggressor before a court as soon as possible. By publishing the video, the force also wants to warn other drivers prone to such behavior.
