In the Czech town of Rokycany, a deer trapped in a fenced yard charged at the municipal police officers who had come to help it, then spent another hour and a half frightening residents on the streets. Nobody was hurt, and the animal was eventually steered back to the forest.
The patrol was alerted to an animal in captivity at a property on Nad Kalvárií street. “They went up to the fence behind which the deer was standing, wanting to assess the situation and work out how best to help it. But it apparently had a plan of its own,” said Petr Volmut, commander of the Rokycany municipal police.
According to him, the deer bolted straight at the patrol, and the officers had to jump aside quickly to avoid being hit. The hoofed animal then found a way out and ran into the woods on Kalvárie, where it disappeared from view.
An hour and a half later the story continued. The emergency line received six reports of a deer running loose: people had seen the animal on Na Patku and Sukennická streets. It turned out to be the same deer. A motorized patrol decided to safely lead the antlered animal out of the city limits: the officers managed to guide it onto Dvořákova street and then, with sirens and lights on, escort it to the Klabava river.
There the male seemed to have had enough of the town: it turned along the river, headed back into the woods on Kalvárie and then off into the wild. Volmut explained that this was the first time the deer had appeared in the town. “But it is the rutting season, and the animals are wild-eyed and a little disoriented,” he said.
