Czech Man Faces Up to 5 Years in Prison for "Undressing" Girl Using AI

Czech Man Faces Up to 5 Years in Prison for

In the Pardubice Region, a young man used a neural network to generate a fake nude image of a girl — according to police, this is already the sixth such case reported in the region. Rather than staying silent about the humiliation, the victim reported the incident to police, and the offender now faces up to five years behind bars.

Cases like this are exactly what a new provision of the Czech Criminal Code, in force since January this year, was designed to address. Article 191a introduces criminal liability for using someone else's likeness to create pornographic content and for distributing it — in other words, so-called deepfakes.

"This kind of 'entertainment' can have very serious psychological and professional consequences for the victims. What's more, the people creating this kind of content are committing a criminal offence," said police spokeswoman Iveta Kopecká.

The penalty for creating and distributing deepfakes starts at two years in prison and can go up to five. Police are urging anyone who has fallen victim to this kind of image manipulation to report it to law enforcement immediately.

"We encourage parents to talk openly with their children about the risks tied to artificial intelligence and the spread of this kind of content. It's often young people who underestimate that just a few clicks can have long-term — and sometimes irreversible — consequences for someone else," Kopecká stressed.
