President Pavel on holiday abroad: his friend seriously injured in expedition crash

A crash occurred during Czech President Petr Pavel’s holiday abroad: driver Petr Šebor, a member of a Czech car expedition, was seriously injured. The head of state himself was not hurt.

According to a source familiar with the trip, one of the buggies overturned. Šebor reportedly suffered serious injuries, including damaged vertebrae and broken bones. A rescuer was on the scene, gave first aid and stabilised the injured man.

Another source said that surgery is unavoidable, and officials are now working out how to bring the driver home safely.

The president is not among the injured, as confirmed by Vít Kolář, director of the communications department at Prague Castle. According to him, members of Pavel’s team took part in giving first aid to the injured man.

The president left the country last Friday. The crash happened early this week — on Tuesday or Wednesday, according to the sources. Because of his planned holiday, Pavel will not take part in the municipal and Senate elections. According to the Castle, he will return to his official schedule on 19 October.
