In Plzeň, a 44-year-old waste collector found a bag containing €20,000 in a bin and took it to the police. The man discovered the money last Friday and approached a police patrol car on Klatovská street. “He said he works as a waste collector and had found a large sum of money in one of the bins, which he wanted to hand in,” police spokeswoman Dagmar Mifková said.
In the bin he had spotted a bag with a plastic pouch inside. It held personal documents, payment cards and cash — €20,000. From the documents, officers established that the money belonged to a 57-year-old man who had died a few weeks earlier. His daughters, while clearing out the flat and sorting through the estate, had thrown out his belongings together with the pouch, which they apparently had not noticed.
According to Mifková, the women will get the money back as part of the inheritance proceedings. “Great respect and thanks to the finder for his honesty,” she added.
