Editor at Czech public broadcaster ČT24, Mateusz Mate, has announced his departure from the channel — the 42-year-old journalist made the announcement on Friday on the social network X, following years of work as a foreign correspondent in Bratislava and Warsaw.
“Today marks the end of an important chapter of my life at ČT24. I decided to return to education back in the spring of last year, for personal reasons. I’m grateful for the opportunities Czech Television gave me, especially the chance to work as a foreign correspondent,” Mate wrote in his post.
The journalist also thanked his former supervisors — Michal Kubal, editor-in-chief of the news and current affairs department, and Martin Řezníček, deputy editor-in-chief.
From 2016 to 2019, Mate served as ČT’s foreign correspondent in Bratislava, and from 2019 to 2022 in Warsaw. He also contributed to the programme “Horizont ČT24”.
The journalist is now returning to teaching, a career he previously pursued from 2005 to 2013 at a Prague grammar school on Vítězná pláň, where he taught Czech language and literature, as well as Spanish and Italian. Mate graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague and holds a Ph.D.
