On Monday, at around four in the morning, a Suzuki struck and killed a kangaroo near the village of Biskupice in the Haná region (Prostějov area) after the animal suddenly darted out onto the road from the right. The incident was confirmed by police spokeswoman Miluše Zajícová.
The marsupial — one of Australia's most iconic animals, known for its powerful hind legs, long tail and impressive leaps — died from its injuries immediately after the collision. According to the police spokeswoman, the kangaroo's owner was notified of the accident, meaning the animal had escaped from private captivity before ending up on the road.
Police estimated total damages at roughly 60,000 crowns. The driver was unharmed, and a breathalyzer test came back negative — he had not consumed any alcohol before the drive.
