Drunk Cyclist Lying in the Road Near Trutnov Has Legs Run Over by Car

An unusual accident took place near Trutnov in the evening, when a car ran over the legs of a cyclist who was lying in the middle of the road. The crash happened around 9:00 p.m. on Úpická Street, police spokeswoman Šárka Pižlová reported.

According to preliminary findings, a 39-year-old driver of a Volkswagen was entering a gentle right-hand bend when he misjudged his speed and failed to stop the car within his visible range. As a result, the car's left front wheel — and partly its left rear wheel — ran over the legs of the man lying on the road, along with his bicycle.

The police spokeswoman said the cyclist was breathalyzed at the scene and registered 2.17 per mille of alcohol in his blood. The seriously injured man was airlifted to the hospital in Hradec Králové. The car driver's alcohol test came back negative.
