Dubai builds a street with artificial rain that cools the air by 20 degrees

A curious new attraction has opened on The Heart of Europe, an artificial archipelago off the coast of Dubai — Raining Street. It's part of the Côte d'Azur resort complex, designed to recreate European architecture and atmosphere in the emirate.

The street stretches for about a kilometre and relies on German-developed technology: a hidden network of pipes simulates rainfall and cools the surrounding air, while sensors continuously monitor weather conditions and automatically adjust the system's operation.

From 47°C down to 27°C

"Temperatures in Dubai are currently reaching 47°C, but here on Raining Street it's just 27°C. We wanted people to feel comfortable and be able to enjoy spending time outdoors all year round," Parisa Seify, a representative of developer Kleindienst Group, told Reuters.

Visitors can be seen strolling under the artificial rain with clear umbrellas or dancing to live music. Rain is a rare sight in Dubai, and in summer it's practically unheard of.

Rain as an attraction

The project is a striking example of how far developers are willing to go in an extremely hot climate to create a comfortable outdoor space. In Dubai, where summer temperatures routinely climb past 40°C, rain — usually an unwelcome weather event elsewhere — has been turned into a tourist draw that visitors seek out on purpose.
