From the start of the year to the end of September, 5,121 used cars of Chinese brands were sold in Czechia. In the same three quarters of last year the figure was 2,543 cars, an increase of 102 percent. This comes from an analysis of the Czech used-car market by Aures Holding, the group that owns the AAA Auto and Mototechna dealerships.
“Sales of Chinese brands are growing very dynamically. Besides the consistently leading MG, Omoda has stood out noticeably this year, and now Jaecoo and Chery as well,” said group spokesman Roman Švidrnoch. The group itself sold 590 Chinese cars in this period, compared with 225 last year, which is 162 percent more.
As with new Chinese cars, Czechs choosing among used ones most often go for petrol or hybrid models; pure electric cars are in the minority.
The best-selling brands on the market are MG, Jaecoo, BYD, Dongfeng, Omoda, BAIC and Chery. Great Wall and Denza models were sold in literally single units.
For example, eleven different MG models are on offer, and nine from BYD. The other brands usually have two or three models available.
The average price of the best-selling used MG ZS fell by about seven percent over the year to CZK 422,000, and for another popular brand, BYD, by 8 percent to CZK 852,000.
The Omoda 5 was not yet found among used cars last year, nor were Chery cars. But for these models, too, prices can be expected to fall as age and mileage increase.
Regardless of brand and drive type, around 850,000 used cars are sold in Czechia each year — three times as many as new ones.
