Five Temperature Records Broken in a Single Day in South Moravia, Strážnice Hits 37.5°C

South Moravia has set five new temperature records for August 1 — all at weather stations with at least 30 years of observation history. The news was reported by Petr Hruška of the Regional Forecasting Office of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) in Brno.

The highest temperature was recorded in Strážnice, in the Hodonín region, where the mercury climbed to 37.5°C. The previous record there had stood since 2017, at 36.7°C.

That same 2017 record also fell in Lednice, where the thermometer reached 36.3°C this afternoon, surpassing the old mark of 35.6°C.

Three more records, all dating back to 1994, were broken as well. In Dyjákovice, in the Znojmo region, the temperature hit 36.4°C, beating the previous high of 35.8°C. In nearby Kuchařovice, also in the Znojmo district, the air warmed to 35.5°C — 0.9°C above the 1994 record. And in Troubsko near Brno, the temperature exceeded the old record by exactly 0.4°C, reaching 35°C.

An extreme heat warning remains in effect for South Moravia over the coming days. Sunday night temperatures may drop to around 18°C, with daytime highs in the region expected to reach about 32°C. Monday night should bring readings of 18 to 22°C, but the heat is forecast to return during the day, climbing to 35–39°C. Tuesday is expected to be even hotter, with forecasters predicting 36 to 40°C.
