French engineers create autonomous drone that hunts mosquitoes mid-flight

French engineers have developed an autonomous drone called Tornjol that can hunt down and destroy mosquitoes mid-flight while patrolling a designated area. The news was reported by Le Figaro.

The device is equipped with an ultrasonic sonar system and smart algorithms, allowing it to patrol a chosen zone completely autonomously, detect insects, and return to its charging station on its own.

Early adopters will be able to access the drone via subscription for $50 a month (roughly 100 CZK). Those who prefer to buy it outright will pay $1,100 (over 23,000 CZK). According to Le Figaro, the project's two inventors have already secured a grant worth $28,600 (more than 604,000 CZK) to continue developing the technology.

The publication stresses that the invention addresses a very real and serious problem: mosquitoes remain the deadliest creatures on the planet because of the diseases they spread. According to the figures cited, mosquitoes cause over 700,000 deaths every year — largely due to malaria and dengue fever.
