Goalkeeper Kovář endures PSV

Czech goalkeeper Matěj Kovář and his club PSV Eindhoven suffered a heavy 0:4 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Super Cup final.

The match got off to a disastrous start for the Eindhoven side: as early as the 9th minute, Joey Veerman caught opponent Mexx Meerdink in the face with his studs and was sent off, leaving PSV to play with ten men for almost the entire game. It was Meerdink himself who made the numerical advantage count, opening the scoring in the 25th minute.

In the second half, PSV's defence and Kovář were beaten three more times, with goals from Wouter Wesley Patati, nineteen-year-old defender Elijah Dijkstra, and Ro-Zangelo Daal, who converted a penalty. AZ Alkmaar ultimately ran out 4:0 winners.

This is AZ Alkmaar's second Dutch Super Cup title — the club previously won the trophy 17 years ago. PSV Eindhoven, meanwhile, remains the competition's record holder, with 15 titles to its name.
