In Domažlice, an owner dumped a gravely ill dog at the shelter gate

An animal shelter in Domažlice (Plzeň Region) found a dog tied to its gate by an owner who had simply abandoned him there. A veterinary examination revealed that the animal had apparently endured long-term abuse and had been left without any medical care.

According to shelter staff member Kureková, an X-ray showed the dog had suffered a fracture in his left hind leg that had healed improperly, leaving the limb roughly three centimetres shorter than the healthy one. On top of that, the animal was found to have spinal problems, including damage to several vertebrae. "He must have been in terrible pain," the shelter representative said.

The dog, named Míša, was also diagnosed with a hernia near the anus and an enlarged prostate gland. As a result, the animal could barely relieve himself normally. He underwent surgery, which fortunately went well, and he is now gradually recovering.

The shelter worker noted that the dog will likely need another operation along with a course of physiotherapy. "I haven't seen such a tormented dog in a long time. He's been through so much. We're now working intensively with him to help him deal with the aftermath," Kureková concluded.
