Kyiv and Moscow Trade Threats: "You'll Freeze This Winter" vs. "It's Going to Be Hot"

Kyiv and Moscow Trade Threats:

Russia's and Ukraine's defence ministries have exchanged public threats ahead of the winter season. On Friday, shortly after 4:30 pm, Ukraine's Ministry of Defence posted a brief message on Telegram: "This winter will be hot" — accompanied by a fire emoji and an image of drones flying toward a city already engulfed in flames.

The post was a direct response to an earlier statement from Russia's Ministry of Defence that morning, which had warned Ukrainians of a harsh winter with the words "You will freeze this winter."

Ukraine Runs Short of Air Defence Missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that his country urgently needs ammunition for its Patriot air defence systems if it is to survive the winter. Deliveries, however, remain minimal, and Ukraine's stockpiles are nearly exhausted — leaving Russian ballistic missiles free to inflict heavy damage. Ukraine faced similarly severe difficulties getting through the winter in both of the previous two years.
