Man stabs doctor to death during pre-conscription medical exam in Kyiv

In Kyiv, police brought a 31-year-old man to a conscription office in the Podilskyi district for a medical examination ahead of enlistment in the army. Right in the examination room, he stabbed the surgeon examining him multiple times, according to the BBC's Ukrainian service.

According to Kyiv police, who published the information on Telegram, the doctor suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest and arms and died at the scene. Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the wounds were inflicted during the military medical examination itself.

According to Kyiv's Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, which reported the incident on Facebook, the attacker had previously evaded both military registration and the required medical examination.

The center also stressed, citing the Suspilne news portal, that military medical commissions are civilian institutions and are not subordinate to the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and that their medical staff consists exclusively of civilian employees.
