Motorcycle collides with car on D1 near Prague: Brno-bound traffic briefly halted

A traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a car occurred at the seventh kilometer of the D1 motorway heading toward Brno. The crash happened around 1 p.m., injuring the motorcyclist and his passenger, both of whom were taken to hospitals in Prague, a police spokesperson reported.

According to police, the motorcyclist was riding in the acceleration lane when he struck the side of a car traveling in the right-hand lane. He was thrown from the motorcycle after the impact. Both the motorcyclist and his passenger sustained injuries.

Breathalyzer tests showed that neither driver had consumed alcohol before setting out, police confirmed. The exact causes and circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.

Because of the crash, police completely shut down the D1 in the direction of Brno shortly before 1:15 p.m. Traffic was partially restored on one lane by 1:30 p.m., and the motorway returned to normal operation across all three lanes after 2 p.m.
