Motorcyclist hits road barrier on D1 near Ostrava, veers into oncoming lane and collides with truck

An accident occurred at a road narrowing on the D1 motorway near Ostrava, at the 360th kilometre. According to police, a motorcyclist crashed into a temporary road barrier, was thrown into the oncoming lane, and collided with a truck.

The injured motorcyclist was hospitalised with a serious leg injury, according to Jana Šedovičová, spokesperson for the Moravian-Silesian Region's rescue service. Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to the emergency department of the Ostrava University Hospital.

Traffic blocked for nearly two hours

All units of the Integrated Rescue System responded to the scene. Police set up a detour and asked drivers to follow the instructions of traffic officers.

The collision closed the road in both directions for roughly ninety minutes. Traffic towards Brno resumed around 1:30 p.m., with the direction towards Bohumín reopening about half an hour later.
