Patient at Prague's Bulovka Hospital Tests Negative for Dangerous Infections, Including Ebola

The reference laboratory at Berlin's Robert Koch Institute has confirmed negative test results for particularly dangerous infections, including Ebola, in a patient being monitored by doctors at Prague's Bulovka Hospital. The news was announced by the Czech Minister of Health.

According to the minister, the woman remains under medical observation as doctors continue examinations to establish a final diagnosis. It was previously reported that the patient had, among other symptoms, an elevated temperature.

The woman was transferred to Bulovka from a hospital in Hradec Králové, where she underwent initial examinations and had samples taken. These were immediately sent to the Berlin laboratory, which specializes in diagnosing particularly dangerous infections.

Specialists classify such diseases primarily as exotic infections — including dengue fever, various hemorrhagic fevers, and Ebola. Pinpointing an exact diagnosis is complicated by the fact that symptoms of many of these illnesses closely resemble one another.

Even before the results came back, the Ministry of Health had said it considered infection with a dangerous disease unlikely, noting that the woman had been in Africa on a tourist trip, had not visited high-risk regions, and had had no risky contacts.

The Health Minister noted that the precautionary measures taken had worked as intended and wished the patient a speedy recovery.
