Plzeň Stumbles at Home Again: Zbrojovka Snatch a Draw, Leaving Hyský Under Threat of Dismissal

In the second round of the Czech football league, Viktoria Plzeň were held to a 1:1 draw by Brno's Zbrojovka, squandering a home win. The match was watched by 10,108 spectators, and thanks to this result the Brno side remain unbeaten after two rounds since their return to the top flight.

Following a disappointing start to the season, Plzeň coach Miroslav Hyský made five changes to his starting line-up, bringing back captain Vydra along with Kabongo, Spáčil and summer signings Pirgić and Prebsl. The hosts began brightly, but it was Zbrojovka who created the first real danger — a shot from Vašulín in the 12th minute was saved by goalkeeper Wiegele.

Two minutes later, Plzeň took the lead: from a Sojka corner, Kabongo headed the ball in off a deflection — his first league goal for the Plzeň club. In the 21st minute the hosts could have doubled their advantage, but visiting goalkeeper Heidenreich made a diving save to keep out a header from Vydra.

The favourites appeared to be in complete control, but in the 58th minute Zbrojovka surprisingly equalised. Vahoušek released Vašulín, who broke clear on his own and finished precisely into the corner — the 28-year-old striker scored against the very club he had left before the season, having failed to establish himself there.

The equaliser clearly rattled Plzeň, and for a long stretch of the second half the team struggled to threaten their opponents' goal. Substitute Spáčil fired wide with 15 minutes left, and Ladra struck the crossbar in the 78th minute. Despite late pressure, the hosts failed to create any clear-cut chances.

As a result, Plzeň failed to beat Zbrojovka for the first time in nine straight meetings and dropped points at home after a run of six consecutive wins. According to sports media reports, the position of Viktoria head coach Miroslav Hyský is now under serious threat.
