Powerful Explosion at Military Plant in Italy Heard 30 km Away

A massive fire followed by a powerful explosion rocked an ammunition factory in the Italian town of Colleferro (Lazio region). According to the newspaper Il Gazzettino, the shockwave was felt by residents in towns as far as 30 kilometers from the plant.

At the time of the incident, 24 employees were on site, though preliminary reports indicate no one was in the immediate blast zone. Search operations are still underway, as the facility covers a vast area, making it difficult to establish a complete picture of the incident. No injuries have been reported so far.

Explosion Occurred in the Explosives Pressing Workshop

According to reports, the incident took place in the section of the plant where explosives are pressed. Several fire crews have been dispatched to the scene and continue to work at the facility.

Colleferro Mayor Giulio Calamita said the explosion was heard throughout the town. "It was a huge explosion that was felt across the entire town. The area closest to the plant suffered only limited damage — windows were blown out in some homes. Fortunately, the explosion happened after the end of the working day, otherwise it could have turned into a tragedy," he noted.

Regional Authorities Respond

Lazio region president Francesco Rocca also commented on the incident: "I am following with great concern what is happening in Colleferro, where an explosion and the subsequent fire hit the KNDS Ammo Italy plant. At this time, ensuring people's safety remains the absolute priority."
