Prague Pride Parade to Disrupt Traffic in Prague City Centre on Saturday

On Saturday, August 8, the Prague Pride parade will make its way through the centre of Prague, causing partial disruptions to car and public transport. The event kicks off at noon from the lower part of Wenceslas Square, according to Prague City Hall spokesman Vít Hofman.

A new parade route

Unlike in previous years, when the march ended in Letná Park, this year's route has been changed. Participants will walk along Na Příkopě Street, past the Powder Tower, through Celetná Street to Old Town Square, then past the Faculty of Law to Dvořák Embankment, continuing along Ludvík Svoboda Embankment, through Těšnov and across Hlávka Bridge to Štvanice Island.

According to City Hall, the parade could draw tens of thousands of participants. It is expected to conclude on Štvanice around 3:30 pm, after which a music festival will take place on the island until 10 pm.

Traffic restrictions

Partial road closures will be in effect roughly between noon and 4 pm. Hofman noted that restrictions will also apply to part of the Prague Ring Road near Hlávka Bridge, from 1 pm to 4 pm. Several public transport lines will be affected as well, particularly around Curie Square in Prague 1, where detour routes will be introduced for the duration of the event.

Security measures

Hundreds of police officers, along with staff from other components of the integrated rescue system, will be on hand to maintain order. Organisers' representatives, security personnel, medics and 115 volunteers will also be stationed along the route.

Prague Pride is a human rights festival dedicated to LGBTQ+ issues, held annually in Prague every August. It features a week-long programme of discussions, lectures, cultural events and community gatherings. This year marks the festival's 16th edition: from Monday to Sunday, more than 180 events will take place across the capital, with the traditional city parade set for this Saturday.
