Prague residents, hang in there: Novinky footage reveals "snail's pace" of repairs at Vysočanská intersection

Prague residents, hang in there: Novinky footage reveals

Repairs at the intersection near Vysočanská street in Prague have dragged on for a remarkably long time, even though actual work was carried out on only a handful of days — the rest of the time, the fenced-off construction site sat empty with no sign of activity. A time-lapse recording made over the entire duration of the traffic restriction shows that intensive machine work — milling, laying new asphalt, marking — happened only sporadically.

Responsibility for the road's upkeep lies with the city company Technická správa komunikací (TSK), which operates on public funds. For most of the time, only a few workers were present on site, handling minor finishing touches or cleanup, while the fenced-off area itself remained deserted for days on end.

According to TSK spokesperson Barbora Lišková, the company's management acknowledges that the pace of work may have looked less dynamic compared to the repairs on Kbelská street. "We understand that the perceived pace of work may have seemed less dynamic compared to Kbelská. Overall, and especially in light of the Kbelská reconstruction, we are looking into ways to speed up work in the future and to strengthen requirements regarding the pace of implementation during tenders and contractor selection," Lišková said, responding to a question about the reasons behind the sluggish impression left by the footage.

According to TSK, the work itself involved milling the old road surface to a depth of 10 centimeters, followed by laying new asphalt. In addition, a comprehensive rectification of drainage elements and utility networks was carried out — height leveling of damaged and sunken curbs, adjusting the height of utility manholes, and leveling street drainage inlets.

The company's representative added that a final accounting for the project has yet to be carried out, since this particular work was part of a larger investment project.
