Prague firefighters have freed a truck carrying a drilling rig that was stuck under a viaduct in Krč. At around 11 p.m., they announced on the social network X that after another attempt, using both rescue tanks and an external hydraulic drive, the vehicle had been released from under the bridge structure.
“We managed to free the vehicle, it is no longer wedged under the bridge. We are now deciding how to proceed so that we can remove it as quickly as possible and reopen the road,” said Prague fire service spokesman Miroslav Řezáč. The next step is dismantling the vehicle so that it can be removed completely.
Firefighters had been trying to pull the truck out since early morning. The special rescue tank of Správa železnic broke down, and a backup was called in from Zbiroh, but it could not cope either. In the evening, another railway fire brigade tank arrived from Přerov. A crane from the company Švestka served as the anchor point for the tank.
Because of the operation, traffic on busy Vídeňská street has been restricted since Wednesday evening, and several city bus lines have also been disrupted.
In the evening, firefighters asked residents not to overload rescuers, the regional operations centre and emergency lines with calls. “These may be well-meant tips, but specialists are working on site who are carefully assessing the situation,” they stressed.
The bridge under which the truck got stuck belongs to the Prague transport company. It serves as an access route mainly for service purposes and excursion tourism.
