On the evening of Wednesday, 21 October, at around 10 p.m., drinking water will be shut off in several districts in the north of Prague: several tens of thousands of customers will be left without it. The cause is an emergency on a main water pipeline that has to be fixed urgently. The repair should be finished on Thursday afternoon.
The failure occurred on a DN 600 water pipe at the corner of Dablická and Žernosecká streets in Prague 8. “This is the main supply pipeline from the nearby reservoirs, which serves several tens of thousands of consumers,” said company representative Tomáš Mrázek.
The affected areas include the Dablice housing estate and Prosek south of Liberecká street, as well as the Krocínka area. According to Mrázek, the polyclinic in Prosek will not be left without water. In part of Dablice and in Dablice-sever, pressure in the pipes will simply drop, by an amount depending on current water consumption.
During the works, Prague Water and Sewerage (Pražské vodovody a kanalizace) plans to provide drinking water in tankers, as well as bottled water in containers.
Another, smaller planned drinking water outage in the same area is scheduled for 3 November, not far from the Dablice housing estate, between Liberecká and Střelničná streets. It will last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Serious water disruptions have happened in Prague before. At the start of the summer holidays, 12,000 households in Prague 4 were left without hot water: one of the main pipes gave way at the intersection of Michelská and Ohradní streets. Some families waited a week for supply to resume, others two weeks because of earlier planned works.
This affects all residents of Dablice, Prosek and the Krocínka area, including foreigners. Water will be shut off on Wednesday, 21 October, at around 10 p.m., and the repair will be completed on Thursday afternoon. Water will be delivered in tankers and bottles in containers for the duration.
