Firefighters in the town of Kněževes in the Rakovník district extinguished a major roof fire that broke out late Tuesday evening at a residential building. According to the Central Bohemian Region fire service, the call came in at 11:36 p.m., by which time the roof was already fully ablaze.
Crews worked in breathing apparatus and used several water jets to fight the flames. The fire was brought under control roughly an hour after it was reported.
Firefighters then had to dismantle part of the roof structure to locate and put out hidden smouldering spots. The local volunteer fire brigade later took over monitoring the site.
Preliminary estimates put the damage at one million crowns. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
