Russia Unveils Prototype Patrol Boat Armed with Machine Gun to Counter Drones and Naval Uncrewed Vessels

In Russia's Leningrad Region, officials have shown off a prototype floating platform called "Plot-47," designed to protect naval bases, port infrastructure and energy facilities from modern threats such as uncrewed surface vessels and drones. The announcement came from Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko via his Telegram channel.

According to the governor, the project was developed after analysing recent Ukrainian strikes on maritime infrastructure, which exposed weaknesses in conventional defence systems against new types of weaponry.

For now, the vessel exists only as a prototype, and Drozdenko describes it as a project with no precedent in Russia. Its sole weapon is a remotely operated heavy-calibre machine gun, though the specific model has not been disclosed.

It also remains unclear whether the platform will be crewed or operate as a fully autonomous unit — detailed technical specifications of the vessel have not yet been made public.
