Severe Storms Sweep Central and Northern Czechia, Wind Gusts Reach 80 km/h

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued an emergency warning for severe thunderstorms affecting mainly the central and northern parts of the country. According to meteorologists, the most intense storm cells are currently forming along the border between the Central Bohemian and Ústí nad Labem regions, where wind gusts are reaching around 80 km/h.

In the village of Brázdy in the Mělník district, a tree reportedly fell on a car parked by the roadside, according to news outlet aktu.cz.

Forecasters expect the storm front to keep moving northeast and remain active until late evening. In northern Czechia, the storm warning is set to expire at 10:00 p.m.

ČHMÚ warns that the severe storms could cause localized property damage and disruptions to power supply, transport and agriculture.

A noticeable drop in temperature is expected once the storms pass — until now, daytime readings had mostly exceeded 35°C.
