Shop Assistant Sells Alcohol to Teenagers in Chomutov Region: 14-Year-Old Girl Hospitalised with Alcohol Poisoning

In a village in the Chomutov region, a shop assistant at a local grocery store sold alcohol to underage girls without checking their age. According to police spokeswoman Miroslava Hlogovská, the group of minors bought the alcohol and immediately began drinking it out on the street.

What seemed like an innocent way to pass the time turned into a crisis within just a few hours. At the centre of it all was a 14-year-old girl who was staying with her grandparents in the village for the school holidays. She misjudged how much alcohol her body could handle and ended up with severe intoxication.

"She couldn't stand on her own two feet, was completely disoriented, and it was impossible to communicate with her," the police spokeswoman said, describing the scene. Officers who responded to the call found the teenager lying under a staircase in a park, surrounded by other people. Paramedics rushed her to hospital by ambulance.

A blood test showed the girl's blood alcohol level was 3.1 per mille. She was kept under medical observation overnight and discharged the following day — police say she is now doing well.

The 61-year-old shop assistant is suspected of a criminal offence — supplying alcohol or a psychoactive substance to a minor. She faces up to five years in prison.
