Slovácko Let Slip a Win Over Artis Brno, Back in the First League After the Play-off

In the second round of the Czech First League, Slovácko played out a 1:1 draw at home against Artis Brno in front of 3,540 spectators. The match ended in a surprising stalemate after the hosts struggled for a long time to find the net, only for the visitors to equalize right at the death.

It's worth recalling that back in late May these same two clubs met in the promotion play-off, where Artis ran out convincing 7:1 winners on aggregate. Since then, however, the Uherské Hradiště side's squad has changed considerably — only three players from those two spring encounters started in today's line-up. Artis earned its First League place through administrative means, following the punishment handed to Karviná. Slovácko, for their part, took to the pitch under new coach Jiří Jelínek, fielding four new signings who hadn't featured in the play-off.

The first half was played out cautiously, with both sides prioritizing defence. Slovácko enjoyed a slight territorial edge but couldn't translate it into anything concrete: Dolzhnikov's shot was blocked by defenders, and a cross aimed at Ndefe found no one to finish it off. Artis built their attacks around the pace and combination play of their African legionnaires — in the 21st minute, Adediran's effort after a pass from Alege flashed just wide of the goal. As the half wore on the hosts upped the pressure, but neither Stoychevski nor Travnik could find the target, and the only genuinely dangerous effort, from Blahut, was turned behind for a corner by visiting goalkeeper Stoppen.

The picture didn't change much after the break: Slovácko tried to wear down their opponents with patient build-up play, while Artis banked on quick counterattacks. Both sides lacked precision in the final third, so clear-cut chances remained scarce. It wasn't until the 65th minute that Stoppen was called into serious action, tipping away a tricky effort from a Stoychevski set-piece. After that the hosts' pressure intensified: Dolzhnikov's shot was blocked by the defence, and Horsky headed over the crossbar.

Slovácko's attacking toil finally came to an end in the 80th minute — but not the way they'd hoped. A cross from Havlik was met by Artis defender Harazim attempting to clear it, only for the ball to cannon off his own teammate Glossoa and deflect past a helpless Stoppen into the net.

The visitors were handed a route back into the match by a mistake from home defender Bechiratche, who lost possession just outside the box. Adediran teed up substitute Fomba, who leveled the score — the forward's first goal in the Czech league. Slovácko were unable to regain their earlier momentum after that, and the win ultimately slipped through their fingers.
