Triple Car Crash in Jihlava Region Injures 11, Including Four Children

A triple road accident occurred on the main road near the turn-off to Opatov in the Jihlava region, leaving eleven people injured. Three ground ambulance crews from Jihlava, mobile units from Počátky and Humpolec, and a rescue helicopter from Jihlava were immediately dispatched to the scene, later joined by a second helicopter from the South Bohemian Region, said Petr Janáček, spokesperson for the Emergency Medical Service.

According to him, four people with minor injuries and one with moderate injuries were taken by ground crews to the hospital in Jihlava, while two seriously injured victims were airlifted to hospitals in Brno and České Budějovice. In addition, medics took four children to Pelhřimov for a precautionary check-up — no visible injuries were found, but doctors decided not to take any chances.

According to police spokesperson Dana Čírtková, preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a passenger car was travelling from Pelhřimov towards Jihlava and, failing to pay sufficient attention to the road, crashed into the rear of a car stopped ahead of him. That car, in turn, had stopped behind a tractor that was turning off the road onto an adjacent plot.

Following the collision, one of the vehicles was thrown into the oncoming lane, where another car happened to be travelling at that moment. According to police, a total of twelve people were injured in the crash. Traffic was temporarily diverted onto detour roads, and the main route was fully reopened by eight o'clock in the morning.
