Ukraine strikes Engels air base in Russia again, casualties reported

Ukrainian forces have launched a fresh strike on the Engels air base in Russia's Saratov region. According to regional governor Roman Busargin, the attacks on Engels and Saratov killed two people and damaged civilian infrastructure in both cities. The Kyiv Independent reported the news, noting that the figures have not yet been independently verified.

Another strike hit the town of Novosemeikino in the Samara region. According to the Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channel Exilenova+, the attack set fire to a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer. Samara region governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said the airspace over the region had been temporarily closed due to the threat of drone attacks.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly targeted Wildberries logistics centers. The company, among other things, sells drone components and ballistic protection gear on its website and is currently under Western sanctions.

Ukraine has for some time been striking military and strategic infrastructure deep inside Russian territory in an effort to weaken Moscow's ability to wage war. Russia, for its part, launched a massive missile strike on Kyiv overnight Saturday, killing at least nine people and wounding more than thirty.
