Unidentified Drone Strikes Tankers at Egyptian Port

An unidentified drone struck the floating fuel tanker Energos Winter at an Egyptian port, sparking a fire that then spread to the neighboring gas carrier Gaslog Salem. The incident was confirmed by Ambrey, a maritime security firm, while port operator Inchcape reported fires breaking out on both gas carriers.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the crews of both vessels were evacuated in time, and the blaze was brought under control. Egyptian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident but have not yet classified it as a targeted attack.

The strike comes amid ongoing tensions in the region: Iran and its allied groups have been regularly hitting American bases and allied countries in response to U.S. strikes that began in late February. The truce reached in June failed to bring a definitive end to hostilities — attacks from both sides resumed in July.

Since late last week, both sides had temporarily halted their exchange of strikes — according to media reports, this may be linked to ongoing diplomatic talks as well as military factors, including dwindling missile stockpiles for air defense systems. Nevertheless, tensions in the region have sharply escalated again over the past two days.
