On Friday, the Ukrainian army attacked a military enterprise in western Russia: the target was the Proton plant in Oryol. Ukraine's General Staff also confirmed the strike, according to Kyiv Post and United24. The enterprise makes optoelectronic devices and electronic components, including for Iskander missiles, Kover systems and Pantsir-S1 air defense systems.
A video showing missiles and powerful explosions at the plant has spread on social media; in wartime, the authenticity of footage cannot be independently verified. Kyiv did not specify which weapon it used. A number of accounts, relying on open-source intelligence (OSINT), suggest these could have been Storm Shadow missiles. The strike was reported, among others, by the OSINTtechnical account, which is run by an analyst at the U.S. think tank Center for Naval Analyses (CNA).
Overnight on Sunday, Kyiv attacked an industrial zone in the city of Yelets in the Lipetsk region. Based on its analysis of open sources, the Astra channel reported that an enterprise producing power sources for missile systems and drones was hit. Thick black smoke rose over the site. According to the same data, Ukrainian forces may have used British-French Storm Shadow/Scalp cruise missiles here as well.
