Poland did not allow a Slovak government plane to fly through its airspace to Moscow: according to the flight map, the aircraft went around Polish territory. The plane, carrying Slovakia's foreign minister, flew to the Russian capital on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026.
The map shows the special flight had to route through Czechia, Germany and over the Baltic Sea, entering Russian airspace near St. Petersburg. The detour made the trip noticeably longer.
It is not the first such case. In early 2026, Poland refused passage to a special flight carrying Slovak parliament members to Moscow. In May 2026, Lithuania and Latvia did not let Prime Minister Robert Fico's plane through as he headed to Moscow for celebrations marking the end of World War II.
On Monday, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar will meet his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in Moscow. Before departing, he rejected the idea of building a new “iron curtain” between the European Union and Russia.
