Protests over high prices in Paris: 142 people detained

French police detained 142 people at a demonstration in Paris on Saturday, 120 of whom remain in custody, the Paris prefecture said. Estimates of turnout range from 110,000 to 250,000 people. According to the prefecture, about 500 troublemakers were present at the end of the march.

The prefecture reported a forced break-in and thefts at one establishment. A car dealership was also damaged, but police intervened quickly.

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across France on Saturday. They are angry about the lack of funding for public services and high prices. According to French media, the demonstrations were mostly peaceful, unlike last Saturday, when the protests were accompanied by thousands of cases of looting.
