World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has announced his return to the court following a lengthy layoff caused by a right wrist injury. "I'm back. Let's go," the tennis star said in a short video. The US Open singles tournament kicks off on August 30.
The Spaniard last played in April at the clay-court tournament in Barcelona, but never finished his second-round match against Tomas Machac after wrist problems flared up. The injury forced Alcaraz to withdraw from Roland Garros and Wimbledon in succession, and more recently from the Masters events in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Before the wrist trouble began, Alcaraz had put together a remarkable run to open the season, winning his first 16 matches in a row and completing a career Grand Slam with victory at the Australian Open — claiming titles at all four majors. Alcaraz has already lifted the US Open trophy once before, in 2022, when the win made him, at 19, the youngest world No. 1 in tennis history.
