Břetislav Bořil Fails to Get Suspension Reduced — Will Miss Liberec's Season Opener

Defender Břetislav Bořil has failed to have the remainder of his suspension lifted and will serve the ban in full for threatening a referee, meaning he will miss the opening match of the new Czech First League season against Plzeň.

The 35-year-old was handed a seven-match ban in April following a red card in round 30 of last season's match in Hradec Králové. The disciplinary committee toughened the punishment after the reigning champions' captain threatened referee Dalibor Černý.

The incident occurred after the referee awarded a penalty to the home side. Bořil lost his composure and picked up a second yellow card in stoppage time, resulting in a sending-off. The defender then went after the referee and had to be held back by his own teammates. According to the match report filed by referee Černý, Bořil told him to "wait for me in the locker room."

The punishment brought his season to a premature end, with six rounds still remaining in the championship at the time. Over the summer, the player — who boasts six league titles, 334 appearances and 14 goals in the Czech top flight — moved to Liberec.

There is no appeal against the decision not to shorten the remaining suspension. As a result, Bořil will definitely miss Saturday's opening-round match in Plzeň. The defender will not be able to make his official debut for his new club before the following week's home fixture against Teplice.
