Drunk foreigner with cocaine in his blood tries to bribe police in Chomutov

Police in Chomutov detained a foreign national who first got behind the wheel while drunk and under the influence of cocaine, then tried to bribe the officers who pulled him over. The details were confirmed by police spokeswoman Miroslava Hlogovská.

According to her, a bystander reported a driver who was weaving erratically through the streets of the town. A patrol was dispatched and stopped the car. A breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level above 0.9 per mille — the driver was asked to take the test as soon as officers smelled alcohol on him.

A bribe for "just one kilometer"

The man then pulled six 200-koruna banknotes — 1,200 crowns in total — out of his trouser pocket and, showing them to the officer, placed them in the open trunk of the patrol car. When asked what this was supposed to mean, the driver said he had only driven one kilometer and that "it's not much."

The officers detained the foreigner on suspicion of bribing a public official. At the station, he was also given a rapid drug test, which came back positive for cocaine.

Deportation to follow criminal case

An investigator has charged the man with bribery. According to Hlogovská, the inquiry also revealed that the foreigner was staying in Czechia illegally. Once criminal proceedings were launched, his case was handed over to the Foreign Police to begin administrative deportation procedures.
