Czech police probe shooting of white-tailed eagle in Vysocina

Police in the Vysocina region are investigating the killing of a white-tailed eagle found dead in the Trebic district. According to forensic experts, the bird of prey died of a gunshot wound — although poisoning was suspected at first.

The dead bird was reported by a staff member of the Veterinary Institute in Brno, who initially suggested the cause of death might have been poisoning by carbofuran — the same substance that has previously killed eagles in the Vysocina region.

“Criminal investigators recovered the eagle’s body and handed it over to the State Veterinary Institute for a necropsy. The results showed that the eagle died of a gunshot wound,” said Cirtkova.
