New James Bond: three actors in final casting, including Elordi

Jacob Elordi could be the new James Bond: three contenders remain

The search for the next James Bond has narrowed to three actors. According to journalist Jeff Sneider, the final casting round includes Australian Jacob Elordi, Scotsman Jack Lowden and one more actor whose name is not yet known.

Sneider noted that Denis Villeneuve, director of the 26th Bond film, is leaning towards “the biggest and hottest young stars”. By his account, 29-year-old Elordi, known for the series Euphoria and the film Frankenstein, fits that description perfectly. The same actors were named by Canadian film publicist Jordan Ruimy, founder of the site World of Reel. He heard that the new Bond will be announced around the turn of October and November.

Not everyone is thrilled

The published rumours have also raised doubts. The writer Charlie Higson, author of several Bond books including the new novel King Zero, told The Times that Elordi is too tall. Lowden, in his view, does not look convincing in close combat. “With Craig, you just believe he could beat someone half to death,” Higson said.

Amy Pascal, the film’s producer at Amazon, said in August that the casting directors are approaching the project very methodically. In her words, following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps is no easy task: the studio has to offer something truly different and exciting.
